Mitchell Lattof Sr. (1929-2000)

From 1952 to 2000, Mitchell Lattof Sr. was the founding member and senior partner at the personal injury firm of Lattof & Lattof, P.C. which has been helping victims of accidents and injuries in the Mobile, Alabama area as well as the entire state of Alabama and nationwide throughout the United States for over 70 years.

Education

After attending high school at Murphy High School in Mobile, Mr. Lattof attended the University of Alabama, graduating with a B.S. Degree in Commerce and Business Administration in 1950 and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1952.

Practice of Law as a Personal Injury Attorney

Mr. Lattof was an active, practicing personal injury attorney in Mobile, Alabama from 1952 until he passed in 2020 at the age of 91. In 1952, he was a founding member of the personal injury law firm that would eventually become Lattof & Lattof, P.C. Beginning in 1952, he was licensed to practice before all courts within the State of Alabama and was admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, The United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Professional Memberships and Recognitions

During the 68 years that he practiced law, Mr. Lattof was a Member of the Mobile Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar, and the American Bar Association. He served as President of the Mobile Bar Association in 1986, as a Member of Mobile County Judicial Commission from 1989 to 1995, and served on numerous Bar Committees. He was particularly proud of his work as chairman of the Mobile Bar Association Archives Committee, during which period he conducted numerous video interviews of long time Mobile attorneys dating back to the 1940’s and earlier in order to preserve their memories and insights into the practice of law in Mobile from years past. At the time of his passing, he was the longest serving active attorney in the Mobile Bar Association.

Civic and Public Service

In 1999, Mitchell was selected as an Outstanding Alumnus in Communication Studies by the College of Communications of the University of Alabama on the 50th Anniversary of having won (along with his debate partner) the U.S. National Intercollegiate Debating Championship representing the University of Alabama. In his private life, Mr. Lattof served as Senior Warden of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, was active in Mobile Mardi Gras events, and over the years participated in various Civic events for the betterment of the community.
